Border Modelling
Cap
-cap is used to close holes
-cap is the first option of optimizing the geometry in polygon modelling.
-we should first stay focused on closing holes before deciding to use bridge and close holes to solve the problem
-reason being is cap will solve open holes. Once it is solved, we have this duology for whether we want to extrude the polygon's face or bridge a specified face to another.
-It's not to say that you won't ever think first first about the Bridge option. It's that the usability of bridging open holes can be somewhat overwhelming and tedious, especially when you have more complex scenes with high-poly objects with lots of geometry, that feels a bit overwhelming.
-Selecting "cap" insures that no polygon is ruined in the process.
Bridge
Make sure parameters are the same between both objects
I usually do Edge mode
Sometimes Border Mode if the selection is an open gap where the geometry is connected all around.
-Bridge in border mode with open gaps - gives a dynamic result for the shape if this added geometry acts as a new shape and you can add on effects like Taper
*Bridge for polygon mode is the exact result -
-Bridge will be tedious work when fixing holes or open gaps because you don't want to have lost geometry or triangulation that disrupts the edge flow. Retopology is like the kryptonite of 3d modelling because there are sometimes no shortcuts in getting the job done faster. But, it is so necessary, for things in professional pipeline like UV texturing and rendering in lit scenes for production.
*always in border modelling, use the check box; you always, always want to optimize versus having a limited default bridge between both shapes that you won't ba able to optimize the number of divisions. You want to be able to optimize the number of polygon faces so that there are options available for you in the polygon modelling stage.
Shift+Move
in edge mode
shift-click-move - a new surface is created
-most relied on method in polygon modelling because you have a freeform control where the added geometry goes in this phase of construction
